Biography

Susanna Liisa Onoper began her piano studies in Tallinn School of Music, under the guidance of Annika Kuuda. Susanna was in Maire Roovik’s piano class for 7 years, starting from 2008, graduating with excellent grades, and continued her studies in Tallinn Music High School 2015 – 2019 in the piano class of Ira Floss, graduating with a gold medal.

Susanna graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in piano in 2022 at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, under the guidance of Senior Lecturer in Piano – Mati Mikalai; and, as a MEXT Scholar, is currently studying for her Master’s degree in piano in Tokyo University of the Arts, in the piano class of Mami Hagiwara. Additionally, she has learnt harpsichord under the guidance of Professor Imbi Tarum and Asami Hirosawa.

Susanna has been successful in many competitions: Estonian Association of Music Schools’ competition “Parim noor instrumentalist” a III place (2011), a I place (2013) and a III place (2015); in 2012. a laureate title in a competition for young pianists dedicated to Heino Eller’s 125. birthday “Mängime Ellerit!”; in the national competition for young pianists “Eesti kõla” a II place and a special award (2013), a diploma (2017), a I place and a special award (2018); international piano competition “Dragon 2017” I places in two different categories and a Grand Prix; international competition for instrumentalists “JSFest” a II place in accompanists’ category, the competition for piano between music high schools a diploma (2017) and a II place (2019).

The participation in the International Piano Chamber Music Competition “Tallinn 2021” as a member of Quinta Chorda was awarded with a special prize by the jury. She won the second place with a special prize in the International Music Dynasty Competition “The Link of Times” (2022) and the special prize with a silver medal in the 6th Manhattan International Music Competition with the Tallinn Grand Sextet.

She is also part of the Lied-duo DuO2(du-o-two) with soprano Marta Oja. Duo was awarded a II place in the EAMT’s VI Lied-duo competition (2022). In the IX Mart Saar Singing Competition Susanna was awarded with the prize of the Best Piano Partner. With MOSSO quartet, she won the I prize in EAMT’s IV piano chamber music competition (2023).

Susanna has participated in the piano masterclasses of Elena Semishina, Heikki Pellinen, Mira Martšenko, Christiane Karajeva, Niklas Pokki, Toms Ostrovskis, Edda Erlendsdóttir, Peter Máté and Carlos Juris; in the chamber music masterclasses of Paulo Pacheco, Michael Foyle, Maksim Štšura, Aleksandra Halat, Ilona Klusaité, Ralf Gothóni, Evan Rothstein and in the Lied-duo masterclass of Elisa Suni.

Susanna has improved her basso continuo skills in Padova’s „Cesare Pollini“ Conservatory, by participating in the masterclasses of Prof. Roberto Loreggian. She has played in orchestras conducted by Andres Mustonen, Toomas Vavilov, Paul Mägi, Takeshi Ooi and others.

Susanna is actively participating in multiple chamber ensembles and is collaborating as an accompanist with singers, choirs, and various instrumentalists, giving concerts and performing in competitions in Estonia, Canada, USA, Finland, Lithuania, Poland, Italy, Japan and elsewhere.
